While Poland was still under
communism, Naomi went back to the town where her late father
was born and saw that the Jewish cemetery was destroyed. She
then raised money and worked with the Polish government to restore
the cemetery after getting permission from the town. She built
a monument there to honor those who perished in the Holocaust,
a town named Augustow, which now has no Jewish people but at
one time was almost fifty percent Jewish. Naomi has a film
on this at the Holocaust Museum in Washington, D.C. and Yod Vishem
in Israel. Naomi takes care of the upkeep and has been back to
Poland on numerous visits.
“Journey to Augustow” can be viewed at the Museum in
Washington, and in Israel the film was shown on PBS and at schools
and meetings. If interested in buying the 28-minute video, please
